Accepting USD-denominated cards in Checkout
Zonos Checkout is primarily designed to support a local buying experience, meaning that shoppers browse and pay in their local currency. Depending on your shoppers and their preferences, you may want to consider enabling USD-denominated cards as a payment option in Checkout. This allows international buyers to pay in USD using their USD-denominated cards, providing a familiar and convenient payment experience and avoiding double currency conversion.
This feature is disabled by default, but can be enabled by contacting Zonos Support.
Once enabled, shoppers will see the option to pay in USD at the final step of Checkout which displays as a Pay in USD option underneath the normal pay button. All currency amounts displayed in Checkout will still be displayed in the shopper's local currency, but the final charge will be processed in USD.
Keep in mind that if shoppers with non-USD cards select the Pay in USD option, they will be charged in USD and may incur additional fees from their card issuer for foreign currency transactions.
USD-denominated credit cards
Allow shoppers to place international orders in USD.
USD-denominated cards are payment cards, such as credit or debit cards, that are issued in the United States or linked to a U.S. dollar account. For international buyers, this means they can make purchases in USD regardless of their location. Using USD-denominated cards simplifies cross-border transactions by eliminating currency conversion fees and providing clarity on the exact charge in USD. This is especially beneficial for shoppers purchasing from U.S.-based merchants or platforms that primarily operate in USD, offering a seamless and cost-efficient payment experience.
These types of cards are especially common in Canada and Mexico, where shoppers have much closer ties to the U.S. and sometimes prefer to pay in USD.
