Clarify Zonos AI

Automate knowing which product-specific details customs needs.

Zonos Clarify is an API that identifies when a shipment needs extra item information for PGA filings, trade agreement claims, and tariff-specific requirements—and returns a conditional question tree your application can present to shippers.

The challenge

Shipments get held when item details are missing

Partner government agencies, trade agreements, and tariff measures each require item-specific data beyond what an HS code can carry. Without it upfront, shipments get held at the border, chased down by hand, and cleared at the wrong duty rate.

Zonos Clarify Zonos AI evaluates each item in a shipment against current regulatory requirements and returns a focused, conditional question tree—ready for your application to present to shippers.

Partner Government Agencies

FDA, CPSC, and others require item-specific attributes before goods can clear.

Clarify identifies which items need a filing for the FDA, CPSC, EPA, FWS, APHIS, or the Lacey Act, and asks the exact questions each one requires.

Free Trade Agreement claims

FTA preferential rates require rules-of-origin documentation.

Clarify surfaces the right questions to support USMCA, regional value content, and other agreement-specific claims.

Tariff-specific measures

Section 232 and AD/CVD duties depend on product attributes—material, country of melt, producer.

Clarify captures these details upfront so shipments clear at the correct rate.

When a product needs product-specific details, it can surface several questions. Answering them one by one, for every shipment, adds real friction to the flow. So Clarify Zonos AI infers the most common answers from the product description and presents them as a single summary the shipper confirms in one click.

If their product doesn't fit the common case, the shipper taps "No" and answers each question themselves. Speed when it's straightforward, full control when it's not.

Setup — Integrate Clarify into your flow

A post, carrier, shipping platform, or marketplace integrates the Clarify API into their label creation or manifesting flow. No UI is required from Zonos—Clarify returns structured data your application renders however you choose.

01 — Submit item data via API

When a shipment is being created, your system submits the item's HS code, description, quantity, value, and destination to Clarify via API. Clarify begins evaluating compliance requirements in real time.

02 — Clarify identifies what's missing

Using Zonos AI, Clarify cross-references each item against PGA requirements, trade agreement rules, and tariff-specific measures for the destination country.

03 — Clarify returns targeted questions

The API returns a conditional question tree specific to that item and destination.

04 — Shipment is ready to clear

With the required attributes captured, the shipment carries everything customs needs upfront. No holds, no follow-up requests, no returns at delivery.

One API call returns all compliance questions for the item and destination.

Clarify is available via the Zonos GraphQL API. Submit an item with its HS code, description, and destination—and receive the conditional question tree with all the compliance questions required for that specific shipment.

  • Find out which item-specific questions to ask
  • Integrate into native label creation flows
  • Conditional logic built in—only surfaces relevant questions
  • Built for Marketplaces, Posts, Merchants, and Carriers

Carriers and postal operators

Validate item data against compliance requirements before accepting packages for export. Reduce border holds and downstream clearance failures caused by missing PGA or tariff details.

Shipping platforms and marketplaces

Embed compliance guidance natively into your label creation or pre-shipment flow so sellers and shippers collect the right item details the first time—no manual follow-up.

Merchants

Ship internationally with confidence that your products carry all the details customs requires. Clarify handles the regulatory logic—you just answer the questions it asks.

Clarify is an API that evaluates items in a shipment and identifies when additional product-specific details are required for customs clearance—whether for a partner government agency filing, a free trade agreement claim, or a tariff measure tied to product attributes. It returns a structured, conditional question tree to collect exactly what's needed.

Clarify is built for carriers, postal operators, shipping platforms, and marketplaces that want to collect compliance data from their users at the point of label creation—before a package is tendered. Merchants can also integrate Clarify directly.

Current coverage includes partner government agencies (FDA, CPSC, EPA, FWS, APHIS, and the Lacey Act), tariff measures like Section 232 (steel and aluminum) and AD/CVD (antidumping and countervailing duties), and free trade agreement rules of origin, including USMCA regional value content. Coverage expands as new requirements are added.

When a product description is submitted, Clarify's AI analyzes it and infers likely answers to required questions. For a lipstick, Clarify may infer it is a lip preparation, intended for use on the human body, and containing color additives. The shipper sees a summary and can confirm with one click—or tap No to correct any inference.

No. Clarify collects and structures the required data—it does not submit filings directly. The data flows into your downstream processes, whether that is an ACE entry, a PGA filing, or a document attached to the shipment record.

For items with no compliance requirements for the destination country, Clarify returns immediately with no questions. Only items that actually trigger a requirement surface the question flow—keeping the experience fast for the majority of shipments.

Stop letting missing details hold your shipments.
