What this means for you
The impact to your business depends on whether you ship to the U.S. via the postal stream or commercial carriers.
Postal stream
If you ship via the postal stream:
- As of August 29th, 2025, all orders are now subject to U.S. duties and tariffs (even orders under $800, which used to be exempt).
- In addition, you can no longer use DDU (unpaid duties) for U.S. postal shipments—even for orders under $800. Duties on postal shipments must be paid before being delivered to the recipient.
- Country of origin is now required for all U.S. postal shipments.
Commercial carriers
If you ship via commercial carriers (FedEx, UPS, DHL):
- As of August 29th, 2025, all orders are now subject to U.S. duties and tariffs (even orders under $800, which used to be exempt).
- You can continue shipping DDU. The commercial carrier will collect duties from the recipient at the time of delivery, though this often leads to delivery delays and surprised customers.

How it works
- Your business shippers create a Verified Account with Zonos.
- Those businesses can ship their packages as normal through your post. You do not need to be involved in the duty collection; simply confirm the business has a Zonos account and you are clear to accept their packages.
- Zonos invoices each business for duties on their shipments. Invoices are sent periodically for all of the business' shipments cleared during that timeframe.
- Zonos pays these duties on behalf of the business.
Need data, too? Automated data is also available via Zonos Classify (AI-powered HS codes, detailed customs descriptions, and suggested country of origin) and Zonos Landed Cost (duty and tariff calculations).
