Fallback HS code and COO
The fallback HS code must be valid and at least 6 digits. If it exceeds 6 digits, a destination country is required for tariff validation. The country of origin should represent where the majority of your products are manufactured.
To modify your fallback HS code and country of origin:
- Go to Dashboard -> Settings -> Catalog.
- Enter your Fallback HS code and/or select your Origin country.
- Click Save.
Item key preference
Zonos Catalog offers the flexibility to use either a SKU or a product ID to create, identify, and reference your products, depending on your preference. Before creating any catalog items, it is recommended that you ensure your item key is set to your preference. By default, SKU is set as the item key.
Once a product is created using your item key, the item key cannot be edited, as it serves as the identifier used by you and Zonos to reference your products. If you need to change your item key, you must delete all products from your catalog, change your item key by following the steps below, and then re-upload or re-create your products using the new item key.
To view or change your item key preference:
- Go to Dashboard --> Settings --> Catalog.
- Set your item key preference.
- Click Save.
Note: For Shopify users utilizing the Shopify --> Zonos catalog sync, the product ID is the required item key preference because Zonos uses it to sync your Shopify and Zonos catalogs.
Catalog item settings
Manage your Catalog item key, fallback HS code, and fallback country of origin.
Landed cost calculations are most accurate when a product-specific country of origin and HS code are provided for each product. Fallback values are used when one or both of these are missing, enabling you to quote duties and taxes without product-specific details. Each store is assigned a single fallback HS code and a single country of origin.
Most ecommerce platform integrations for Zonos Landed Cost and Zonos Checkout automatically retrieve the HS code and country of origin (COO) from your ecommerce platform. See which platforms support product-specific HS codes and COO.
If you integrate the Checkout API or Landed Cost API, these values can and should be passed dynamically. If they are not passed through the API, not stored in the Zonos Catalog, and an HS code is not generated by Classify on the fly, fallback values will be used.
