Add EU product identifiers (PIDs)

Add the product identifiers the EU requires on low-value B2C shipments, from your connected sales channel or in Zonos Catalog.

From November 1, 2026, the EU requires product identifiers (PIDs) on every item in business-to-consumer shipments entering the EU worth €150 or less. Shipments missing them may be held or rejected by customs. This guide shows where to add the identifiers so they reach your Verified Account catalog.

For background on the regulation, including TARIC codes and exceptions, see the EU Product Identifiers (PID) guide.

What's required

Each product needs up to three identifiers. Two are always required; the S-PID is required only when the product has one.

Identifier↕Also called↕Required?↕Example↕
Merchant Product Identifier (M-PID)SKU or product IDAlwaysTSHIRT-BLU-M
Non-Standardised Manufacturer Product Identifier (NS-PID)Manufacturer number; model or part numberAlwaysMX-500-BLK
Standardised Manufacturer Product Identifier (S-PID)Often referred to as the barcode or GTIN; includes UPC, EAN and ISBNOnly if the product has one012345678905

For the merchant product ID (M-PID), you can use either the product's SKU or its product ID. You only need one.

If you make the product yourself, your own model or part number is the manufacturer number.

Where to add them

If you've connected a sales channel, add the identifiers in your store and Zonos syncs them into your catalog. Anything your channel can't sync, add in Zonos Catalog.

You don't need to do anything for the merchant product ID. Zonos syncs each item's product ID from your channel automatically, along with its SKU when it has one.

Variants and variations always sync their own identifiers. Zonos never copies a parent product's GTIN or manufacturer number onto its variants, because a parent's identifier is the wrong one for each variant.

Zonos Catalog

Add any identifiers your channel doesn't sync, or every identifier if you haven't connected a channel.

  1. Sign in to Dashboard and open Catalog.
  2. Find the product. Each variant is its own catalog item.
  3. Fill in the identifier fields:
    • SKU or Product ID: your merchant product ID (M-PID). Either one works, and synced items already have it.
    • Manufacturer product ID: the manufacturer number
    • GTIN: the UPC, EAN, GTIN or ISBN, if the product has one
  4. Save, and repeat for each item.

Edit Product page in Zonos Catalog with the SKU, Manufacturer product ID and GTIN fields highlighted

A value you add in Zonos Catalog stays when your channel syncs, as long as the matching field in your store is empty.

For a large catalog, add the identifiers with a CSV import or the Catalog API instead of editing items one at a time.

Catalog identifiers only reach your labels in two cases

Zonos uses the identifiers in Zonos Catalog only if:

  • You print shipping labels from Dashboard.
  • You print labels outside of Dashboard and call the Zonos API to get the product's catalog details before you request the label from your carrier. See Find a product for how to look up a catalog item.

If you print labels outside of Dashboard and don't call the Zonos API for catalog details, work with your label provider to include the identifiers when the label is printed.

To find out where to enter your PIDs for your specific carrier, see our EU product identifiers guide.
