How it works
Classify boost is an on-demand enhancement mode within Zonos Classify that improves HS code classification when product descriptions are vague, inconsistent, or missing key details. It supplements the information you provide with publicly available data to give Classify more context—helping it make a more informed decision. This data enrichment typically results in more precise and confident classifications, making boost especially useful for businesses with unclear or incomplete product descriptions.
Why use Classify boost?
When a product is listed with minimal detail—like an apparel name such as “SL 72” or a brand name like “Armani”—there may not be enough context for Classify to confidently determine the correct HS code. The same goes for manufacturer product numbers like “JUWT1105MCD,” which often don’t include any descriptive information about the item itself. In these cases, you’ll often see a low confidence score in the result, signaling that the input didn’t provide enough information for accurate classification. Traditionally, resolving this would require manual effort—like reaching out to suppliers or researching the product yourself—to gather additional context. Classify boost takes care of that heavy lifting for you. Instead of relying solely on your input, it searches the web in real time to enrich descriptions for you. That added context enables Classify to deliver more accurate and confident classification results without extra work on your end.
What to expect
Boost works behind the scenes just like standard Classify—using the same inputs and returning the same type of output—but routes the request through an enrichment process that adds an extra layer of intelligence. It doesn’t change how you interact with Classify, only how the classification is processed when boost is enabled. Since it retrieves and analyzes additional data in real time, it may take slightly longer than a standard request.
Classify boost isn’t necessary for every use case—it depends on the quality of your product data. If your descriptions are already detailed and specific, the standard Classify model is not only sufficient, but may actually yield more accurate results. Boost is most effective when descriptions are sparse or lack essential detail that could impact classification accuracy.
